Has this failed before?

Describe a part, concept, or failure in plain words. Hindsight searches 5,179 public product-safety records (recalls, Health Canada recalls, EU Safety Gate alerts, and unverified SaferProducts.gov consumer reports) and groups the matches by failure mode. Every claim links to its source.

DFMEA rows

Paste the TSV into Excel/SharePoint; the CSV is RFC 4180. The severity column is a hint derived from the injury profile of the matching records — it is not a severity score for your design. Replace with a verified severity rating in your own DFMEA.

Function	Failure mode	Cause	Effect / Hazard	Severity hint	Evidence	Suggested verification	Source(s)

Category risk profiles

For each v1 category, the top failure modes seen in the data, ordered by the worst injuries reported. Click a mode to see its records.

Design-review checklist

P0, P2, DVT, TRA are SharkNinja's own program-gate names (from their public job postings). Pick a category and the checklist is built from the failure patterns in Hindsight's data for that category.

Accuracy

Hindsight uses AI to extract one failure mode, cause, effect and a verifying quote from each record. Those labels drive the search index. Here is how often it is right, measured on hand-labeled records.

About & data

Hindsight is a concept tool. It is not affiliated with SharkNinja. Everything on this site is built from public, free sources.

What it is

A DFMEA-oriented search over every public product-safety record for the small-kitchen-appliance categories SharkNinja's Ninja NPD team ships: pressure & multi-cookers, air fryers, blenders, ice-cream & frozen-drink makers, coffee & espresso, kettles, countertop ovens & toasters, grills.

Type a part or concept; the AI translates your words into a search vector, we score it against 5,179 records, and group the matches by failure mode so you can read them as patterns rather than one-off incidents.

Where the data comes from

CPSC recalls — verified U.S. regulator actions.
Health Canada recalls — verified Canadian regulator actions.
EU Safety Gate — verified EU alerts.
SaferProducts.gov consumer reports — unverified consumer claims, always labeled as such in the UI. They are useful signal, not proof.

Open government data; each record on this site links back to its source so you can read the original.

What "unverified consumer report" means

Anyone can file a report on SaferProducts.gov. The report is published after a short review but it is not independently investigated. Hindsight shows these reports because they are the largest signal of real-world consumer use, but it never counts them as recalls, and it labels them "unverified" on every surface they appear in.

Bring your own data later

The record schema (hazard text, failure mode, cause, effect, quote, source) is the same shape as a DFMEA row. The pipeline accepts your own FMEAs, DVT/EMC results, field returns and lessons-learned — once that private data lands, every search covers your history too. Public data makes the demo useful on day one.

Design notes

Every claim links to a record. "No matching record" instead of guessing.
SharkNinja records appear in the same neutral format as every other brand.
Patterns show regulator actions (recalls + safety alerts) and unverified consumer reports as separate numbers, never combined.
Everything runs client-side after one search; the server is only there to embed the query.
